ARTILLERY是整个欧洲最早的激流金属乐队，他们有着很长的历史，并在激流金属这一音乐类型范畴内有着极其重要的地位和对世界不容忽视的贡献。他们早期成功地将技术性演奏与旋律结合在音乐中，并开创了此类激流金属风格，并影响至今。他们的吉他手Stützer兄弟与主唱Flemming Rönsdorf杰出的合作凝聚为这股开创性力量的诞生。直至今日，ARTILLERY优秀的演唱和强烈的技术型激流金属声音仍然是这个时代的实力派金属乐的标志。
ARTILLERY于1982年成军于丹麦，他们和METALLICA这样的乐队一样，也是激流金属音乐类型最早的创世乐队之一。他们最早的小样We Are the Dead发行在1982年便得到了广泛的关注，在3年间不停的发行小样带后。第一张专辑Fear of Tomorrow在1985年的发行获得了全世界的认可。而后发行的专辑TerrorSquad和By Inheritance成为乐队早期历史的里程碑名作。后者因开创极富东欧旋律色彩的音乐风格，而被国际金属乐媒体所瞩目。从此时ARTILLERY已经成为一只独树一帜的标志性经典金属乐队。由于缺乏唱片公司的更大支持和乐队此时开始的内部纠纷，乐队开始停止发展的脚步。此时的ARTILLERY在商业上没有取得重大突破，最后在1993年解散。而后的几年中，在一些契机的迎合下也没有令乐队再次复合。

2008年激流金属的再次回潮终于在全世界全面爆发，在新主唱Soren Adamsen和老成员鼓手Carsten Nielsen变更阵容后推出他们的DVD现场OneFoot in the Grave, the Other One in the Trash。全新录音室专辑When Death Comes在千呼万唤中于2009年发行。他们老乐迷被再次唤醒，加上全世界数以万计的年轻乐迷，越来越多的支持者从欧洲各地而来，聚集在AR TILLERY的演出现场。
