转某美国网友(mfstout)的悼文一篇,很感人。
虽然尚未拥有一支Collings,但很喜欢Collings这个品牌带来的那种气质,有机会一定会的

Austin is a little quieter today. "奥斯汀今日有些寂静"

She’s lost one of her noblest souls.
Bill Collings has gone on to another place. And we are all that much better for having known him. And loved him.
Bill was one of the greatest luthiers the world has ever known. An extraordinary talent. An innovator. A luthier with an engineer’s mind. A man who created an entirely new sound in acoustic guitars. Not a Martin. Not a Gibson. But a Collings.
The Collings acoustic guitars were like nothing anyone had ever heard. They seemed to sing all by themselves. Just touch the strings, or tap the top, and the music flowed in a river of emotion and color. The magic of the wood released. The air filled with song. Our lives transformed.

Bill took two simple elements, wood and steel, and created a legacy that will live on in the hearts of so many musicians, and fans, and all those who knew him, worked with him, learned from him, and cared for him. His genius extended to mandolins, electric guitars, ukuleles, even cases that harkened back to the old days. But it was his honesty, his character, his sense of humor, and his absolute passion for perfection, that made him a true American icon. And a good and great man. He had an energy about him. An aura that infected all who met him with hope and optimism. He was one of those rare people who changed our lives for the better.
I met Bill back in 1990. He put up with my amateur curiosity, and my constant visits. He and the folks at Collings, like Steve and Alex, always treated me like family. Made me feel at home. They epitomized the best part of Austin. The part that says ‘you’re always welcome’.
There will never be another like him. Never be another Bill. Another Collings. His music, and his memories live on. He will always be missed, and never forgotten. I am heartbroken. But if I just close my eyes, I can still hear his voice. His laugh.
And the music.
Always the music.

Austin is a little quieter today.
