上世纪40年代，Alan和Ron Vater的祖父Jack Adams在波士顿开了一家名为Jack's Drum Shop的鼓店。1956年，Alan和Ron的教父Fred Maichele在Jack’s Drum Shop店内以一日六对鼓棒的速度开始手工打磨鼓棒。这些手工制作的鼓棒在顶级鼓手圈中迅速获得了良好的声誉，不久，诸如Philly Joe Jones和Buddy Rich这样的著名鼓手也想使用这些特别的鼓棒。

上世界70年代，Jack的女婿、Vater打击乐器的奠基人Clarry Vater继承了家族传统。Clarry在其两个儿子Alan和Ron的帮助下，在马萨诸塞州诺伍德市自家乐器店的地下室中开始制作鼓棒。他想以现代机械打磨鼓棒，让鼓棒制作更加完美，同时保持让Jack鼓棒名声在外的高品质。
上世纪80年代，由于他们的鼓棒的受欢迎程度与日俱增，Vater将作坊移至马萨诸塞州霍尔布鲁克市一个更大的场所。那时，Vater的私人客户群已由当地的鼓店扩张为大企业，比如Vic Firth和Zildjian。在这剧烈的成长期间，Vater的设备设计更加完善，开发出了给鼓棒漆面的独特配方，同时仍旧将严格质控作为他们的首要任务。

1990年，Vater推出了自己的“Vater品牌”产品线，开始开拓市场并获得主要的经销渠道。不久，用过Vater鼓棒的鼓手立刻迷上了这个品牌的鼓棒。Vater鼓棒绝佳的质量美名远播，鼓乐界的各种大牌已开始选择Vater鼓棒以示支持。从彼时至今，Vater不断改进制造设备、电脑分析漆料&重量配对系统，并持续增产。
