The tops, backs and sides are solid wood and are not made from two layers. The materials that Renato uses is the best and the soundtops are mastergrade. If you are thinking of doing a custom model, there are several good sources where you can purchase the woods and then send them to Renato. I have done so with four of the guitars that Renato has built for me. I have a Pau Ferro/Cedar, Sapele/Cedar, Brazilian Rosewood/Cedar (concert guitar #2), Bubinga/Engelmann Spruce, and a Padauk/European Spruce.

The woods for the backs, sides and top are typical wood sets that you get from luthier suppliers such as LMII, Colonial Tonewoods, Stewart MacDonald, thewoodwell.com, www.gilmerwood.com, etc. The sound top for a classical guitar, whether it be spruce of cedar is two pieces of wood, typically about 3/16 of an inch in thickness, that are joined together to make the sound top. Simarlarly, the back is composed of two pieces that are joined, as well as the sides. I have yet to run across any soundtops or backs for guitars that are a single piece. In fact, every set of woods that I have purchased, this includes mastergrade, have come that way.
>>2. What about the projection and the sound volume? Compared with the other famous guitar in the same pric>>e range, such as Ramirez R1/R2 and YAMAHA GC31?
The projection and sound of these guitars is as good, if not better than any of the famous guitars that I have encountered. I have actually tried out several at Ed Roman's here in Las Vegas and there isn't a one of them I would trade for my mangore, and even the ones that cost $5000 or more! Also, the craftsmanship and artistry isn't up to par. On many of the guitars that I looked at in the shops, the grain on the soundtop was not tight and straight.
Everyone of my guitars has a different voice and sound. The spruce tops are more pronounced and bell like in the trebles. Whereas my cedar tops are warmer and deeper in tone and have great volume and projection. One thing that I will tell you is that the body of the custom models are slightly larger and therefore generate more volume and projection, than the production model concert guitars. Even so, I love the action on my $1480 rosewood/cedar top and the projection, tone, and volume are incredible. I have had that guitar for 9 months now and it gets better with each passing day. I love Renato's guitars so much, I have acquired additional sets of Pau Ferro, and one set of camatillo rosewood with which to build several more custom models. In my estimation, you can't go wrong.
