另一个版本的 Waltzing Matilda
澳大利亚最出名的歌就是：华尔兹玛蒂达Waltzing Matilda其地位是无可争论的，在澳州有人不会唱国歌，但没有人不会唱Waltzing Matilda。歌曲讲了这样一个故事：
有个流浪汉露营在一个小湖边的桉胶树下，一边等着壶里的比利茶煮开，一边快乐地唱着Waltzing Matilda，这时有只绵羊来喝水，这个流浪汉很高兴地抓了来装进他的褶包里，但附近的农场主却诬蔑他偷了他的羊，和警察一起骑着骏马来抓这个流浪汉，流浪汉说：你们在我有生之年是不可能抓到我的，于是投湖自尽了。以后每当人们经过这个小湖时。都可以听到他的鬼魂在唱着Waltzing Matilda。

Swagman - swag 是 铺 盖 卷 的 意 思 。 swagman( 又 叫 swaggie) 就 指 扛 着 铺 盖 卷 的 人 。 此 处 是 指 扛 着 铺 盖 卷 到 处 找 工 作 的 人 ( 就 象 象 现 在 中 国 的 打 工 民 工 ) 。 一 般 指 剪 羊 毛 工 。 到 了 剪 羊 毛 的 季 节 ， 背 着 铺 盖 ， 不 怕 澳 洲 内 地 的 严 酷 气 候 ， 四 处 找 工 作 。 每 个 剪 羊 毛 的 季 节 ， 他 们 弯 腰 驼 背 ， 为 澳 洲 剪 掉 百 万 计 的 羊 只 。 因 为 这 首 歌 ， 那 些 机 智 幽 默 的 swagman 成 了 澳 洲 的 一 个 标 志 。
