You know, I hate to sound xenophobic or jingoistic, but I feel compelled to make a plea to buy American and boycott Chinese instruments. Granted, some of the guitars coming out of China are pretty amazing, especially for their price, but this is the same China that is doing things like stealing the trademark for D'Addarrio strings and selling their own strings with the exact same packaging and logo as the real thing for half the price. And this is the same China that stole the trademark for C.F. Martin est. 1833 and is producing C.F. Martin guitars for less than $500 (free shipping). Check this site out - www.dhgate.com/wholesale/martin+guitar.html a "Martin" D-45 for $370.00, a D-40 sunburst that sells for $355.00, other "Martins" for the same price.
They're doing the same thing with Fender and Gibson as well. And apparently the American government and Martin can't do a damn thing about it.
As much as I would love to own one of those Recording Kings or a Blueridge I can't bring myself to support anything that comes from a country that would allow outright counterfeiting.
Unless guitar players take it into their own hands and say we won't buy from China until they stop counterfeiting, and as a result American guitar shops stop ordering and stocking them, this will just go on and on. |
