即使是在群英荟萃的美国爵士乐坛，你恐怕也很难见到另一位象Marcus Miller这样才华之卓越涵盖了创作、演奏、录音、制作等各个环节甚至各个细节的大师。电贝司是他的扬名利器自不待言，而演奏低音提琴、原声吉他、电吉他、次中音萨克管、中音萨克管、低音单簧管、电风琴、电钢琴、电颤琴、FENDER罗德琴、DJ刮擦器、编程鼓机、声音合成机、合成器、贝司合成器、环境合成器对他来说亦是熟谙之技，而音乐创作、编曲、录音、制作这些幕后工作也无疑是他所擅长······

Marcus Miller 是继 Jaco Pastorius、Charles Mingus 及 Stanley Clarke 之後世所公认的最佳 BASS 手之一，他曾获多种奖项的殊荣，1995年 BASSPLAYER 杂志票选为年度最佳 BASS 手及90年代最有影响力的10位 BASS 手之一；在他所弹奏的歌曲中，你可以听出BASS弹奏的所有技巧，包括 fingerstyle、two-handed tapping 及他最具个人风格特色的技巧-slap and pop。

Marcus Miller 於1959年6月14日出生於美国纽约的布鲁克林区，父亲在教会中弹奏钢琴及风琴，自小 Miller 就与父亲学习合声及读谱听唱的能力，高中及大学时期皆就读音乐学校，主修低音簧管(因加入全职乐手工作而辍学)。 Miller 十岁时便开始学习吹奏低音簧管，後来发现低音簧管在乐团中似乎并不重要，随後又开始学习 saxophone，钢琴及 bass，在高中时期，影响他的 bass 手有 James Jamerson、Rocco Prestia、Larry Graham 及 Jaco。

Miller 首度演出经验是在纽约灵魂乐剧担任乐队的角色；1977年(当时年仅18岁)，Bobbi Humphrey (flautist) 正式邀请 Miller 加入在爵士乐团演出并录制专辑，随後又加入 Lenny White (Drum) 的乐队巡回演出，渐渐的 Miller 便在 bass 乐界展露名声。他真正成名是在纽约担任录音乐手 (session player) 时，早在80年代，便参与录制 Bob James (keyboard，葛莱美奖爵士演奏奖项得主)、Grover Washington Jr.(saxphone，葛莱美奖爵士演奏奖项得主)、Roberta Flack(vocal) 及 Aretha Franklin (vocal，葛莱美奖R&B得主)等专辑。

同一时期曾加入 Miles Davis 的专属乐队，二年後转而参与 David Sanborn(saxphone) 专辑的制作及弹奏。 1986年，Miller 第二次与 Miles Davis 合作，这次的合作是 Miller 音乐生涯中最重要的阶段，在 Miles Davis 转入华纳唱片的首张专辑 TUTU 中， Miller 不但担任专辑制作人、弹奏各种乐器，最令人称道的是 Miller 替这张专辑写了大部份的著名曲。现在 Miller 不但担任职业录音乐手的角色，他更将触角伸展到电影配乐及谱曲编曲的舞台；在世界各地，他带领著自己所属的 Marcus Miller Band，透过特殊的 Marcus Miller Tone，向世人展现他的技巧，及对音乐的热忱。
