The Jackson SL2H is legendary. This is the #1 Jackson guitar and it has a legion of shredding owners who would lay down their lives for their axe. Ok maybe that’s a bit of hyperbole, but we really love the SL2H and are thrilled to announce a new Music Zoo custom run that is about to drop in conjunction with Jackson Custom Shop. The SL2H-V is our take on an SL2H decked out with vintage features like a smaller headstock, the original “hand painted” logo, non recessed Floyd, and brass strap buttons. Also the controls have been moved slightly for enhanced playability.

One of our favorite album covers of all time is Slayer’s “South Of Heaven”, featuring Larry Carroll’s awesomely dark design. Now that album is honored with a limited run of LTD guitars from ESP that bear the artwork and feature a wicked Slayer inlay in the fingerboard.

3 Joseph Arthur hand-painted Kingpin Customs Godin
Guitar player and artist Joseph Arthur teamed up with Godin this year to do a series of custom-one off hand-painted Kingpin Customs and we really dig the result. We’re not used to seeing custom and one-off guitars from Godin, but these beautifully created pieces really were turning heads at NAMM. Arthur, recently playing in Fistful of Mercy with Ben Harper and Dhani Harrison, has always been well received as a songwriter, and also as an artist and designer. The Kingpin Customs are limited to just a handful of pieces this year, and each one is unique.
4 Kirk 双切角ESP KH-DC
There’s a new Kirk Hammett guitar in town, and this is it. The ESP Kirk Hammett KH-DC will be available in both ESP and LTD versions and is a double cutaway carved-top guitar with a classy flamed maple top. There were a couple on display, and this one had a scalloped fingerboard for ease of fretting above the 17th fret.

6 Taylor箱琴新品上市
The array of guitars available from Taylor is vast, and for 2012 there are some significant updates across the board. We saw the new guitars for ’12 at the Anaheim NAMM Show and they look and play great. The Koa Series gets a koa/maple island Vine inlay, a new single ring rosette, and maple or blackwood purfling trim. We love that. On the 700 Series you’ll find Ivoroid Heritage Diamnods inlay, a 3-ring rosette and Ivoroid binding, and a Vintage Sunburst finish on a standard Engelmann spruce top. The 600 Series gets Pearloid Twisted Ovals inlay on the Natural finish, with an option for Koi Blue. Pearloid Deco Diamonds adorn the 500 Series in 2012, with faux tortoise shell binding and dark brown stain. The 400 Series gets Pearloid Progessive Dots on the fingerboard. The 300 Series gets 4mm Pearl Dots and two new GS models, the 316ce and 356ce. Finally, the 200 Series will show up in two new finishes: Tobacco Sunburst and all-black. Also, there are fewer Jumbo models this year, and most GA 12-strings are going away in favor of more GS 12-strings.
7 新的EVH wolfgang系列
The EVH brand continues to evolve, proving that it’s not just a line of signature guitars; it’s a fully realized brand of high quality gear across the board. The guitars are the center of the EVH universe of course and 2012 brings some significant updates to the USA Wolfgangs. The quilt maple has been abandoned in favor of a straight and tightly bookmatched 5A flame maple for the tops on the trans and burst finishes. Ebony fingerboards have been added to many of the new guitars, as well as block inlays. All the guitars are also available in both Floyd Rose tremolo or double locking hardtail. That’s right, even the hardtail version has a locking unit behind the nut along with fine tuners for the ultimate in stability.

Gibson showed off the latest Zakk Wylde signature guitar in Anaheim, featuring a dizzying new finish. The “Vertigo” Les Paul is an all mahogany body and neck with a maple fingerboard, the usual satin finish on the neck, and loaded with the requisite EMG humbuckers for pinching the shit out of your harmonics.

9 fender 50周年Jaguar
There were so many great guitars introduced in the 1950s and 60s that now we can enjoy the 50th anniversary celebrations for the best of them. 2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the Fender Jaguar, the dare-to-be-different solidbody that today has a near-fanatical following. We caught our first look at the 50th Anniversary model at NAMM 2012 in Anaheim, and it looks fantastic. This version has the expected 24″ scale length, but modern improvements such as higher output pickups, a revised neck pitch, and the tremolo plate has been slightly moved for a sharper break angle over the bridge.
10 新的NB老木头系列Charvel（musiczoo独家限量系列）
These one-off guitars feature some amazingly figured maple that came from some very old logs discovered in a lake. Back in the 1950s, a furniture maker decided the wood was too wild looking and threw the logs off a cliff into the water where they sat for decades. Combined with some very special “cooked maple” flamed and birdseye necks, these Charvels are some of the coolest we have ever seen.

11 Gibson CS Paul Kossoff 签名59原型
Paul Kossoff made a huge impression on generations of future guitarists with his playing in the band Free in the ’70s. Tragically, his life was cut short at just 25, but not before he had turned the heads of legends such as Clapton and Peter Green. His main axe was a gorgeous sunburst 1959 Les Paul Standard, and now Gibson is paying tribute to his contribution with the Paul Kossoff 1959 Les Paul. Only 100 of this limited edition guitar will be produced as aged replicas, and 250 VOS versions. We got our hands on the prototype at the 2012 NAMM Show, and it is a truly beautiful replica, featuring the hand aged “green lemon” finish.

12 Fender CS Buddy Holly 致敬系列ST
The long awaited Buddy Holly Tribute Stratocaster was finally revealed at this year’s NAMM Show. Limited to 50 pieces worldwide, Masterbuilder Dennis Galuszka recreated Buddy’s original ’55 Strat right down to the cracked pickup cover. This is quite an exacting guitar, Fender is even using the correct ’54 bakelite parts that his guitar featured which have previous been reserved for only the Masterbuilt ’54 models in 2004. Buddy’s guitar was lost many years ago, so only photos exist of it today, but fortunately enough were available to really dig in to the project and nail it.
13 Gibson USA Ace Frehley “Budokan” Les Paul
Hot on the heels of the super popular Custom Shop version comes this Gibson USA Ace Frehley “Budokan” Les Paul. Patterned after the sunburst Les Paul Custom that Ace famously hit the stage with at Nippon Budokan in Japan in 1977, this beast is loaded with 3 DiMarzio pickups. The neck and middle are PAFs and the bridge is a blazing hot Super Distortion. This limited edition Les Paul is sure to be in hot this year.
14 Gibson Jeff Tweedy 签名款SG
When on tour with Wilco, Jeff Tweedy often brings with him an arsenal of cool guitars, both electric and acoustic. But one thing that has been constant the last few years has been the presence of his favorite blue Gibson SG. Now you can get your hands on Jeff’s axe, call up your favorite ‘heavy metal drummer’, and rock out. Gibson’s Jeff Tweedy is in that great shade of Blue Mist with a natural mahogany neck. The Lyre tailpiece looks great. Jeff has great taste when it comes to guitars, and this is one signature model that isn’t overcooked.
15 Godin’s 11-string fretless MultiOud
One of the most unique instruments on the market is Godin’s 11-string MultiOud, taking its inspiration from ancient middle Eastern instruments. Now, Godin is bringing the Oud into 2012 with the addition of frets and steel strings, bringing the unique sound of the MultiOud to guitarists who aren’t completely comfortable making the transition to fretless. Naturally, the onboard Aura system keeps everything sounding great amplified onstage.
16 David Ellefson的新Jackson bass
We caught up with the great Dave Ellefson (Megadeth) behind the scenes at this year’s NAMM show and got the inside scoop on what’s coming in the world of Jackson basses. Not only is Dave a longtime endorser with his own signature basses, but he’s been tapped as a resource by the Jackson brass to guide and influence the brand of Jackson basses overall. This is great news; Dave is the perfect guy to help Jackson basses further their hard rocking identity while also bringing a hefty dose of innovation to the table. Dave showed us some of the Custom Shop basses that he designed along with Masterbuilder Mike Shannon (who also built them). These basses look terrific and hopefully foreshadow things to come from Custom Shop and import as well.

17 Fender MB John Cruz Samurai Stratocaster
This may very well be the coolest guitar at all of NAMM 2012. We had to muscle our way past a crowd of camera-wielding Fender fans just to get a closer look at this work of art. The Samurai Stratocaster is a mind-blowing expression of ancient japanese culture using some of the finest Koa we’ve ever laid eyes on and utilizing the talents of painter Pamelina, leatherworker Dru Whitefeather, and inlay artist Ron Thorn.
18 Gibson Satin SG61
These are the new SG 61 guitars from Gibson USA, sporting a very handsome satin finish. We love satin finish guitars for the cool, fast feel of the neck, and it looks particularly hot on these SGs. Otherwise, the specs are pretty standard stuff, ’57 Classic humbuckers, bound North American rosewood boards, mahogany bodies.
19 Musicman JP12
John Petrucci has a long history with Ernie Ball/Music Man, and we were excited to see the latest Petrucci model at NAMM 2012. The JP12 comes in 6 and 7-string versions (7-string pictured). The basswood body is sporting a nice new color, Cherry Sugar, but the most significant tweak comes in the piezo saddles. They’ve been revamped to eliminate the seating issue present in earlier models.
20 Fender Johnny Marr签名 Jaguar
The Smiths, one of the most influential bands of the 1980s, were propelled to great heights by the sonic innovation of guitarist Johnny Marr. He reinvented what the role of the guitar in pop music could be, and guitarists today are still very much in his debt. At NAMM 2012 Fender busted out the killer Johnny Marr Signature Jaguar which was designed over the last four years in conjunction with Johnny. It has custom Bare Knuckle pickups, tweaked switching, Mustang saddles, and a host of other little touches that Johnny has come up with. We love it.
21 Fender Kurt Cobain签名款
Kurt Cobain often played a modified Fender Mustang on stage in addition to his famous Jaguar. Shown at NAMM 2012, Fender is releasing some very cool Cobain Mustangs that pay tribute to the rock and roll innovator. The most important spec on these otherwise mostly classic guitars is that direct mounted Seymour Duncan JB humbucker. That transforms the Mustang from a fairly toothless little guitar into a dangerous riffing weapon. These will be available in both left handed and right handed versions, and in Fiesta Red, Sonic Blue, and Lake Placid Blue with a competition stripe.
22 Fender select 系列
Fender unveiled their top of the line for USA guitars and basses in 2012 – Fender Select. These instruments bring together high-end appointments with beautiful figured maple tops to create a very classy and playable Fender. Aside from the lovely, subtle satin lacquer burst finishes you’ll see on them, these new guitars and basses will draw from a feature set that includes contoured neck heels, the Bi-Flex truss rod system, compound radius fingerboards, rear-headstock “Fender Select” medallions, carved maple tops, unique Select pickups, and a special no-load tone control that gets out of the way when dimed. MAP prices will fall between $2,049 and $2,499 depending on model. Pictured above is the Fender Select Telecaster in Violin burst.

This stunning 8-string creation caught our eye in the Jackson booth at NAMM 2012. Built by Masterbuilder Chip Ellis (who also builds Eddie Van Halen’s guitars) and fellow Masterbuilder Pablo Santana, this piece exemplifies the attention to detail and clean lines that we have come to expect from them both. Flame maple top, mahogany body, maple neck with an ebony board, one toggle and one volume knob. A simple player’s guitar, for those who play 8 strings.
25 Gibson Kirk Flying V 复刻版原型
Without a doubt, our favorite Kirk Hammett guitar is his black 1979 Gibson Flying V. It’s probably his, too. That guitar was on every album in the first half of Metallica’s career, starting with “Kill ‘Em All”, “Ride The Lightning, “Master Of Puppets”, and “And Justice For All”. It’s possibly one of the most important heavy metal guitars of all time. Now, Gibson is producing 150 perfectly aged replicas of this iconic V, 50 of which will be autographed by Kirk.

26 Billy Gibbon 的Gibson
At NAMM 2012 we saw up close in person what fans have so far only been lucky enough to see on stage – this amazing heavily aged Gibson Custom Shop Goldtop belonging to Billy Gibbons. Not only did Billy do the pinstriping himself, he even did all the aging by hand. We have to say, he absolutely killed it. Billy’s hot rodding roots are clearly the inspiration for the retro detailing. The three knob setup is volume/volume/master tone and the body is chambered. Look at the belt buckle rash on the back – it’s Texas! We wouldn’t be surprised if Billy was bad ass enough that all his belt buckle rash on every guitar he plays took that shape.
The best news? Gibson is planning to produce this guitar. No word on when, no word on how much, but we’re happy to hear that this masterpiece from the master of mojo will multiply.
27 Jackson Corey Beaulieu签名款原型
One of our favorite up-and-coming shredders, Corey Beaulieu from Trivium already has a Jackson signature guitar or two in his arsenal. But we spied some prototype guitars at NAMM 2012 that are worth a closer look. One 6-string (pictured above) and one 7-string (below) model. The combination of flame tops with metallic finishes is dazzling, and combined with the unique carve on the traditional flying V shape, puts these protoypes over the top.
