This bass has a great over all tone and the mid boost gives you a variety of options. I find that in the studio, with the mid boost off, i get a very clear, rich tone with all of the highs in tact. Live, with the mid boost activated, i maintain the botom end and get a little more punch to reach off of the stage. This bass also has a balanced out jack for recording. I don't know how much differnce it makes by avoiding the d.i. but i do know that it puts out a much hotter signal. One of the comments that i hear from everyone who tries it and is familiar with 5 string basses is that the B string has more tension than most 5 strings. It has no flop or rattle. I have noticed that the bass eats batteries fairly quickly. At least one a month or around 300 hours per. But the manufacturer took this into consideration in the design and location of the battery. The battery is located on the back of the bass in a little flip out compartment. Some one once told me that the flip out compartment is the same piece that they used to use for ashtrays on airplanes. So it's easy to change. In the four years that i have owned it, i have only had to have the neck adjusted once. And that is with lots of cross country flights over the four years. That is probably attributable to the graphite neck. Overall, an outstanding sounding bass that is very playable.
