Ummmmmm, I'd drop that guitar store.......I don't have my guit tools in front of me, but let it be said, it's a standard metric allen wrench, NOT hard to find AT ALL .......I bought a set for working on my bicycle years back (all that stuff's metric...) and I'm guessing it's anywhere from 2mm to 5 mm for the Epi LP tr (at least it worked on my '07) ....off the top of my head, I'm thinking towards the smaller end of the range - am posting from a relative's comp. Good luck, and just go to a hardware store and buy a few small metric allen wrenches - always good to have extra tools on hand...or wait until someone posts the exact size you need=d>
If you plan to own more guitars ever any USA models, I would suggest getting a set of each, metric and standard. You should be able to get one of each for less than $25 for both. Good investment tool wise. You sometimes will run into guitars that have funky setups that will require you to get creative but under normal circumstances, Normal allens in metric and standard will hold you. Ovation acoutics come to mind as the truss adjuster is set pretty far from the soundhole, at least in the older USA models. Good luck !
Yeah just be glad it's not Armstrong Whitworth size.
You should be looking for a 4mm Hex key. Best is to get a long T-handle version.
Well, like as previously answered, most people just get a set of allen wrenches.
That's what I have. I have no idea what the sizes actually are for any of my guitars. But I do know I have an allen wrench that will fit every truss rod.
I suggest you go out and buy a set. They are very useful for a lot of things. And they are relatively cheap.
4mm for those who want to know, same as the les paul discussed above....

Q: Can someone tell me what size allen key is needed for the truss rod on an Epi LP standard please? I've lost the one I got with the guitar and am looking to add one to my current order of parts. Thanks
My 2010 LP & 09' Casino are both 4mm
I have a 5/32 seems to fit..that is about 4mm maybe a 4mm. mine is 2002 MIK
4mm here as well... '07 Epi LP Std ..... which is cool, as I have plenty of 4mm keys - 4mm seems to also be a very standard size for fasteners on various bicycle parts of quality
Mine are all 4 mm...
If you can swing it, I would recommend a little set of say 6 different sizes - they always come in handy. I can't tell you what size you need, but I'm not sure if anyone can without knowing at least the year, or even the factory of manufacture.
It's a 4mm
That's right. I do not recomend buying a set of them , buy 1 T hadle 4mm
Yup, the T-handle ball-end 4mm from Stewmac works perfectly. However, getting yourself a set of standard and a set of allen keys is a good idea, too!
Thanks everyone, I added a 4mm ball end wrench in my stewmac order After reading the Dan Erlewine guitar repair book (got the 3rd edition) last week, I feel a lot more knowledgeable and confident on adjusting the rod. I did give the neck a cursory check using the low E fretted at the 1st and 17th and it appears to have a manageable amount of relief, but I may try a straight neck at some point.
Thanks again
Crafstsman, Bondhaus, and Gorilla are really good quality. I have sets of each in my tool cart at work, used everyday in an industrial setting.

I have a metric and standard set, and I used the "4" for my Epiphone Ultra II truss rod. Even for my 1994 Epiphone LP-100 and my roommate's Cort.
I'm assuming the 4 means 4mm. I'll have to double check when I get home, but that sounds about right.
Yes 4mm, if you have to buy one get the longer T handle type easier to work with than the bent ones.

又是一个痛苦的问题【来自:http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/ ... h-nut-question.html】:
Korean Epi Les Paul - truss rod wrench/nut question
Hey folks. So I purchased a used Epi Les Paul about a year and a half ago from a user on eBay. At the time, it was a good idea, but I began to think gradually that it might have been wiser to buy a guitar that I'd seen and played beforehand. Anyhow, since then I have come to really like this guitar, and it's really nice to play now that I got the frets leveled some months ago. So I was trying to make the playability the best that it could be, and I understand that I need a specific wrench to adjust the tross rod. I did some research on Les Pauls, found out that I need either a 5/16" or a 1/4" wrench, so I first purchased the 5/16" from Stew-Mac...too big. So I ordered the 1/4" one thinking that was the other option...now it's too small . I understand that Stew-Mac also has the in-between, the 9/32" wrench. But since I now have both the 1/4" and the 5/16" wrench, would it be a bad idea to, say, purchase a Gibson style truss rod nut (5/16", from Stew-Mac) for my Epi LP and use that with the 5/16" wrench? I don't know that it would fit my truss rod correctly, but maybe it would? The one thing that strikes me as odd is that neither the 5/16" nor the 1/4" worked...so my guitar must be pretty unique, or just old. It is Korean made and not Chinese, and it doesn't even have a serial, which is strange. So would it be wiser to just buy the 9/32" wrench, or replace the nut and use the 5/16" wrench? Thanks a lot.
I have a '96 LP made in Korea and it uses a allen wrench. Not sure of the size but it's just a regular "L" shaped wrench out of the toolbox. I don't think any of the Gibson truss rod nuts or wrenches will apply to Epiphone.
Hi, thanks for the reply. The thing is, mine has a hex nut, and at this point I'm pretty sure it's just the 9/32" that I need. It's just that I don't want to have a useless wrench if (for example) I went out and bought a Gibson Les Paul or some other guitar that uses the standard 5/16". But I guess it is like $8 so it's not much of a worry. I called Stew-Mac, and they said they gladly accept returns and exchanges, so I'm thinking I'll just return both the 1/4" and the 5/16", and get a 9/32" in exchange for either.
Just a guess, here, but....if it was made in Korea, chances are great that you need a metric wrench -my EE Epi (yeah, I know, not Korea, but .... most of the world doesn't use "fractions of inches") uses a metric allen key (ummmm, guessing 4mm, maybe ??? I'll have to hunt it down and double check).
Dang, I remember the big push back in the '70's to learn the metric system, as the good ol' USA was gonna convert over. WTF happened ?? Crap is still inches/ounces (both weight and volume). God bless the US, I guess
4mm works on my Epi's. on edit: go to Walmart (or some place similar) and get a pouch of cheap allen wrnches, both standard and metric, for about $2.00.
Hm, what Epi guitars do you guys have? Because mine is (what appears to be) an Epiphone Les Paul Standard, but with no "Standard" on the truss cover. So it's kind of a guess. But anyway, mine is a hex nut and not an allen screw, which seems pretty standard for modern LP style guitars? Correct me if I'm wrong, which I probably am. Again, I also have no idea what year my guitar is. Also, with regards to the fact that it may use metric wrenches instead, I am hoping that since 9/32" is right in between too big and too small, it will be just right :P. It's still possible that none will work, but I'm hoping for the best. Thanks for your responses.
A hex nut? As far as i know all epi's use allen keys... as well as any other guitar i have owned. Sorry dont know what size, i have several allen wrench sets and i lucked out.
That what they take 4mm the longer T hadle work a bit better, auto store , hardward store. about 4$ a piece, only need one
All my old Samick made Epi take a 4mm, but hey guess they had different designs at some time. Live and learn.
The final answer for Epi Les Paul Made in Korea is 7mm or 9/32 ''
on a nut type truss rod, you'll need a 7MM wrench if its between 1/4 and 5/16".
