Repertoire & Pieces - What Should You Play?
First Round (Qualifying Round)
Your repertoire or piece should be recorded on tape or CD and sent to us. The repertoire should comprise of two contrasting pieces of performance levels from two selected different periods below.
Early: before 1600
Baroque: 1600-1750
Classical: 1751-1828
Romantic: 1900 - present
Examples of such composers include J.S. Bach (Lute Suite), A. Barrios (La Catedral), F. Sor (Malbrough Variation), F. Tarrega (Adelita), I. Albeniz (Asturias), H. Villa-Lobos (Choros), etc.
Second Round (Heats & Semi-Final)
Same pieces as played during the first round but to be played in front of a panel of judges.
Final Round
Two new contrasting pieces from different periods of the history of music. They must not be the same pieces played during the first & second rounds.
Please note that the duration of each piece should not exceed 10 minutes. All pieces will have to be performed from memory without scores. Participants should also provide 3 sets of musical scores of each piece to the panel of judges.
How Do I Apply?
The participation fee is S$35 (US$20). The closing date for all submissions is 25 August 2005. All selected participants will be notified by 1 September 2005.
Please enclose a photocopy of your personal identification (passport, driving license, etc.) as well as two recent photos of yourself with a guitar.
Please note that registration is approved only when all relevant documents and payment are received by the Organizer.

Terms and Conditions
The submission of the application to participate in the competition implies that contestant will unconditionally accept all of the rules, regulations and terms therein:
1. This is a solo competition using classical guitar. There is no age limit and is open to all nationalities at any level or standard.
2. Registration fees are not refundable nor transferable.
3. Performances are made open to the public throughout the entire competition.
4. There will be 16 Semi-Finalists and 8 Finalists.
5. Contestants must arrive on time for the competition otherwise they will be disqualified.
6. All prize-winners are required to attend the Prize Presentation Ceremony at the end of the festival.
7. Copyright Act - participants performing an unpublished work or works in any form must obtain necessary approval to perform such works during the competition. The Organizer will not be responsible for any copyright or composer’s fee incurred. Contestants also agree to indemnify the Organizer against any action and/or claims for damages from any third party who owns the copyright.
8. Audio and visual recordings will be made throughout the competition. Contestants acknowledge that any rights to the material indicated above belongs exclusively to the organiser of the competition who may use it in any form and manner and for any purposes.
9. Unless authorized, no audio or visual recordings may be made by anyone at any point in time during the competition.
10. The Jury reserves the right to interrupt the participant at any point during performance, and also exclude him/her at any stage during the competition. In the event of an exceptionally complex result in the evaluation of the finalists, the jury may request contestants to perform an additional piece.
11. Contestants must accept without appeal, the decision of the panel of judges especially admission to the final or the awarding of the prizes. They must fully respect the official decisions of the judges, whose decisions are final with no further enquiries entertained.
12. The Organizer reserves the right to combine or arrange players in any order of appearance.
13. Any changes to the contestant's repertoire must be submitted to the Organizer before 5 September 2005.
14. The Organizer reserves the right to cancel the competition if there are insufficient contestants. In the event of cancellation, all registration fees will be fully refunded.
15. The Organizer reserves the right to amend the conditions and rules of the competition at any time. |
