José María Gallardo del Rey简介
At nine years of age José María Gallardo del Rey made his debut in Seville, Spain. Since then his stage career has progressed with great acclaim from critics and audiences alike. He appears regulary, at the programming of theaters as Champs Elysée of Paris, Konzerthaus of Wien, Auditorium Stravinski of Montreaux, Auditorium Nacional and Teatro Real of Madrid, Performance Arts Centre of California or Carnegie Hall of New York, among others.
He is one of the few soloists who have cultivated the art of guitar music to reach beyond the classical repertoire and hence extend the limits previously placed on the guitar and solo guitar technique. Gallardo del Rey is as skilled and experienced with Opera and Ballet as he is with Flamenco and Jazz and has performed with some of the finest orchestras, chamber groups, ensembles and soloists in the world.
A distinguished conductor and composer, Gallardo del Rey has conducted, among others, the Tellemann Chamber Orchestra of Osaka in the debut of Paco de Lucia performing the Concierto de Aranjuez. He is the musical director and founder of the acclaimed chamber ensemble La Maestranza a septet that performs Gallardo del Rey’s compositions. He composed and performed on the sound-track of Alta Definición desde Espa?a, the official film of the Spanish Pavilion in EXPO ’92 and the X Bienal de Arte Flamenco in 1998, both in Seville.
He regularly performs throughout the world with the famous Spanish mezzo-soprano Teresa Berganza and transcribes, especially for her, an extensive variety of voice repertoire including opera arias from Mozart to Bizet. Next February Jose María Gallardo del Rey will be Musical Director in The Opera of Paris in a concert with Teresa Berganza.
Invited to Paris along with Menuhin, Rampal, Osawa and Elton John, Gallardo del Rey performed in the celebration of the 70th birthday of Mstislav Rostropovich in March 1997. He also appeared with John Williams at the Darwin International Guitar Festival, Australia in 1995 and again in 1997.
Through his astounding technique and sensitive interpretations, Gallardo del Rey has been commissioned to perform world premieres of works by Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Manuel Castillo, Craig Russell, Santiago Navascués and Gerald Brophy, among others.
In the book The Classical Guitar, Its Evolution, Players and Personalities since 1800, José María Gallardo del Rey is listed as the Guitarist of his Generation.
With the ocasion of Maestro Rodrigo Centennial, has has been performing his guitar concertos all over the world.

La fundación de La Maestranza tiene lugar, hacia 1994 en el real sitio de San Lorenzo de El Escorial. Una flauta, una clarinete, una viola, un violonchelo, un contrabajo, una voz y una guitarra son los pilares que conforman la arquitectura acústica de La Maestranza.
Sus componentes son artistas de reconocida trayectoria profesional, vinculados a estilos tan diversos como la música antigua, la clásica, la contemporánea, el jazz, el tango o el flamenco. Dirigida por José María Gallardo del Rey, La Maestranza emprende la tarea de crear un conjunto de cámara desde el que proyectar un nuevo estilo de crear y recrear la música espa?ola.
Era indispensable para La Maestranza hacer de la guitarra su centro de gravedad. Por su precisión rítmica, por su color y por la conexión tan directa con nuestras raíces, es el instrumento que comporte con el grupo lo mejor de nuestra esencia, haciendo, en una cuidada simbiosis, de crisol sonoro donde todos los instrumentos se funden para crear una textura y una atmósfera especiales.
La Maestranza posee un repertorio de varios siglos de música de muy variados estilos, siendo su especialidad la interpretación de la música espa?ola y de las composiciones que José M. Gallardo escribe especialmente para esta formación.
Desde su debut en la IX Bienal Internacional de Arte Flamenco (Sevilla, 1994) hasta su última gira por Oriente Medio (1996) y CentroEuropa 1997, La Maestranza ha venido cosechando los mayores éxitos de critica y público. Es de destacar el espectacular triunfo de su última producción Banderillas de Tiniebla en el marco de la X Bienal de Arte Flamenco (Sevilla, 1998).
En la actualidad La Maestranza prepara su próxima gira por EEUU y Suramérica.
